While several of their free-agent teammates left for greener pastures ( ), the Bruins Joe THornton and Sergi Gonchar have filed for salary arbitration, guarenteeing they'll be with Boston next season. ------------------------------------------------------ It's time to PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, it doesn't...The Bruins are the only team in NHL history to walk away from arbitration awards...
They did it with Dmitri Kristich, which turned out to be a great move.
They did it with Bryan Berard, which was an "OK" move.
Unlike baseball the Bruins can also seek the arbitrator to grant the player a 2 year contract, so it's possible that if the Bs go that route both players would could be under contract for 2 years (and I would suspect the Bs will go that route).

ProJo is a good paper (I read it a couple times a week at work)...in this case they didn't write about the possibility the Bruins might not accept the award and allow the players to walk away.

Hello. Yes it's me again. Every once in a while my son steps away from the computer and I actaully get to use it. Anyway, I believe that only Thornton can be held to 2 years of the arbitor's decision. Gonchar will be 30 next year, therefore he can only receive a one year decision. He is eligible for free agency next year.

wether or not, the bruins need both gonchar and thorton, as i fan i watched the team improve greatly after they recived gonchar, as for thorton, he is the captin without him the team would be less whole he really holds the team togther and the loss of him would undoubtably keep the team out of the playoffs, and further postpone the stanley cup which they so totally deserve. The 04-05 season promises to be a great one as long as the team realizes that they need to work hard for what they want and fight with all they have cause when they are on there game they are virtually unstopable ;D Hopefully, go bruins!

Thornton arbitration ruling should be in the next couple days...the Bruins did not announce if they were going for a 1 or 2 year deal.
I expect it will be a two year deal at about 7.5M per....

I'm sure Joe would love for you to be the arbitrator, but the paper I read gave the decision as 1year @ 6.75 mil. Not bad coin. Now all we need to do is pray for a season...

I'm shocked at the low amount (as are a lot of people) and that The Bruins went for just the one year.
If Mike O'C could have predicted that amount he would have most certainly gone for a 2 year deal.
